French inspired journal

I upcycled a battered old 1960 Life World Library book about France. Five of the nine signatures of paper are hand torn pages from the book. The cover is off white flowery flannel and the end pages are brown flowery cotton fabric. Notice the Eiffel Tower on the front page. Very fun/soft to handle and lots of vintage pictures and history about France to see. :)

I like it a lot! What a work of art! Would you be willing to take some more photos of the interior pages? I am taking some classes in bookbinding and love seeing others' finished projects. I like the concept of the hand-torn pages--looks great! MaryB

Thanks Mary! I will add some more photos soon...my camera's batteries wore out. It was so nice of you to visit and leave such sweet words. Good luck in your classes, bookbinding is such a great hobby. I really love it!

Quick question, if you do not mind. . .when you mention you used a cotton flannel for the cover, did you do anything to treat it to keep the glue from soaking in? I spend the weekend at a bookbinding class and we were talking about using scrap fabrics for covers, but I kept hearing about an intermediate step to coat the fabric first, which I have not yet researched.

Thank you,
Mary
P.S. Your Etsy page has very nice items!

Hello again!
I have never taken a class, and if there is an intermediate step I wish I knew it. I don't do anything before gluing the fabric, but I have found that using plain old tacky glue in a very thin (smoothed out with a Q-tip) layer for the outside of the book and then a hot glue gun for the inside end pages works best with fabric. Also, I use recycled hard bound covers and recover them, as opposed to any cardboard or card stock type which tends to wrinkle with glue. Anyway, hopefully that helps. :)
